One of several Inflector Quebec-based projects in 2017 took place at the Domtar Lands – the site of the future Zibi development on the shores of the Ottawa River in Gatineau – an ambitious world-class development that will feature residential, commercial and cultural spaces on a formerly derelict industrial space. The client required removal of asbestos-containing materials within certain site buildings and on exterior pipe systems around the site. The project also included demolition of select buildings and the renovation of remaining buildings into residential living areas.
The asbestos removal program included removal of asbestos containing drywall and thermal pipe insulation materials. The outdoor asbestos removal was completed utilizing the glove-bag technique.
All workers had valid Commission de la construction du Quebec (CCQ) cards and had been quantitatively fit-tested for use of powered air purifying respirators (PAPRs). The abatement work was completed on time and the demolition schedule was achieved.
